Magic Markers (5)

Been a while, but these were quick and easy to do.

I could see these as useful for Tokens in an Encounter featuring Necroplane Supremes and Minions.

They are simply Micro Art Studios bases painted up and voila.

Summoned Terrain Tokens

Black Swamp and Nuclear Waste, both roughly 6 inches in diameter
Pulp City has always had a few concepts that were not ordered in exact terminology, and one of the things that is happening with the rules revision is catching some of those generic ideas and codifying how the rules operate for them. That in turn should make the game more accessible which is the plan at any rate!

Among those ideas were things we are now going to be calling Summoned Terrain; stuff like the old Black Swamp from the Albino Gator's Curse for Francis Gator, and the old Nuclear Leak for Nuclear Jones.

I showed the WiP's of these a couple of weeks ago, and here they are finished, with poured Magic Water to complete them (which took about twice as long as advertised to set by the way!).

My really big Tokens; Summoned Terrain.

Magic Markers (4)

Okay, not the most exciting minis/gaming stuff around, but I like to have nice Tokens on the gaming table. Just as I think playing a game with fully painted and based minis is more immersive than say playing with unpainted minis, nice incidental gaming pieces add something extra to me that scraps of paper or whatever other options may not. For example, in our games of Pulp City Rob and I track building damage using a mix of Gale Force 9 and Litko fire styled markers, each size representing defined amounts of damage, making it both a Damage tracker and a visual reminder that buildings are being trashed.

So on to these latest markers. The first set represents the effects markers for Lava Flow, a special Action that requires Supreme(s) with both Fire and Earth Skills to be used. Basically that only allows for Sgt. Bale and Stoner Hawk, but in time we may see more options. Lava Flow is a bonus Action accessed through the Elemental Mastery: Fire and Earth Resource. When triggered, a number of markers (the theoretical limit is the lowest AP Allowance of characters using Lava Flow) are place, which then travel away from the designated eruption point in each Round. I made enough to allow a theoretical limit of 8 Tokens and a single eruption point, even though it is unlikely more than 5 will be needed (or maybe 6 or 7 in the right circumstances). The lava markers are 'Fire & Brimstone' bases from Forgecraft Games (pack of 12). My first try at a 'lava' type effect; some practice still needed.

The next set of Tokens are used for a Supreme still in play test. I can't say more, but the death-theme should probably indicate what Sub-faction the model will belong to, and eagle-eyed readers may have spotted art for a likely candidate in the Pulp City Guide...

These markers were quick and cheerful to make using the new Graveyard sprue from Renedra (link). At £8 GBP for 2 sprues, the sheer number of grave markers on the sprues is amazing and should meet most needs in the 28-32 mm scale I reckon. Not the greatest painting I have done, but I was so impressed by this sprue I decided to make them very quickly (especially as I seem to be struggling with painters block again).

Stuff...Continued

Regular readers may recall last week my post (here) in which I mentioned I had received some custom laser-cut markers from Fenris Games (link), well here are the pictures I promised.

The template is designed to be a multi-size 'Blast' template; the template is 6 inches in diameter (3 inch radius) with inner rings marking 2 inch radius and 1 inch radius. I asked for those and the hole in the centre to help lining up. I also asked for the numbers to allow for clock face distribution of models or effects. I am really pleased with it as a gaming aid and a nice 'bit of kit'.

The 'Flight' markers are sized to fit neatly under 30mm or 40mm bases; my plan is to simply stack the requisite number of markers as models ascend or descend while Up, Up and Away!

Ian and Jo at Fenris did a great job, delivering the markers to my specifications, and at a price far below what I anticipated - their service was great value, and turnaround very quick, so I can imagine it won't be long before I get them to whip something else up for me.

And for those with an eye for detail; the font is Impact, the same as used on post and blog titles on Pulp Citizen, and the same font used for names on the Supreme, Minion and Resource cards for Pulp City. Sad but true that I went to that trouble...

Magic Markers (3)

Let there be rock(s).

I have been working on more markers/Tokens lately, and these are some of the latest results of my endeavours.

I'll show more in a the next few weeks as I build up more of them. I like doing these as they add to the visual narrative of the game, even if they are not strictly required.

Rocks.

Well stones, maybe. These latest markers (Tokens) are intended to represent Stoner Hawk's Stoneshapes creations. Stoneshapes allows Stoner Hawk to make one stone marker per AP spent, creating a very formidable barrier; useful to for inhibiting enemy movement or attacks, as well as defending objectives.

The astute reader may note that with his AP 5 Stoner Hawk can only create 5 markers. And I have made 7. It is future-proofing basically, anticipating that one day Stoner Hawk may be able to create more thanks to the Actions of friendly Supremes.

Magic Markers (2)

A few more Tokens. I have these four that I recently finished, as well as another 8 that are assembled and undercoated.

There are another 2 Manholes (this time simply painted up Dragon Forge bases) and two safes (from Copplestone Castings) that can count as as Vaults, Loot or Agenda Tokens (objectives).

After that I need to make myself some Tokens to represent Stoner Hawk's stone columns that he creates with Stoneshapes. Now while this Action can be represented only using 30 mm bases, I thought stone columns of suitable height would be cool.

I also need to figure out how to represent Sirens (per the Resource) on a 30 mm base. If anyone has any ideas let me know.

Magic Markers (1)

With the build-up to the release of the Pulp City rulebook, I thought it was high time I got around to making sure I had some nice objective markers to go with my minis and terrain. I am happy that I have enough Supremes and scenery for them to game in and around for the time being, so I need to work on more Minions and especially objective markers (Tokens). They are not really magical, of course...(I just love a pun, good or bad)...

The first Tokens I have completed represent goals for Agendas and Resource markers. The first selection of completed Tokens are (click on the pictures for larger images):

Manholes – 2 Tokens; one of the Tokens is from a bunch of resin bits kindly supplied by Pulp Monsters as a sales promotion last year if I remember correctly, the other is the Solar base from MaxMini, with a little removal of extraneous details.

Weapons Crate (A.R.C. only) – made using a Fenris crate mounted on a Dragon Forge base, and needed as my main opponent loves using Howler; Dragon Forge and Fenris - two of my favourite manufacturers working in harmony!

Teleport Anchor – this was another of the resin bits from Pulp Monsters. It may double up as a simple objective Token.

Loot – 2 Tokens; again, resin bits from Pulp Monsters, previously painted but newly mounted on bases; mounted on each of a Dragon Forge and Fenris base.

Crate – probably an objective Token; painted a while ago and then based as I was doing the others, the crate was a freebie when I placed an online minis order, so I don’t know the source of it; base by Fenris.

Altar/Place of Power – this will probably serve as an objective Token; from Ral Partha Europe (from a pack of 3 pieces), the item was painted a while ago to serve for anything from Conan to fantasy to superhero games, so I based it this week (Fenris base) to serve as a Token.

There are more Tokens I am working on, and I will post them as and when they are finished. The 30mm bases I have used are ‘Concrete’ (Dragon Forge) and ‘DS Military Industrial Complex’ (Fenris Games), as well as the ‘Solar’ base (MaxMini).
