Gentleman (Sniper)

Gentleman is not utterly evil, he considers moral standards more or less a matter of individual taste. Just as you may like a Prada suit, so you may like being a hitman.

A long time coming getting a Gentleman Sniper finished - this was not the first version I started (there is another that I will get finished one day that will have a cream suit. In the interim this was painted simply to get a model done amidst my latest bout of painters block. I had hoped to use an alternative sniper rifle from RAFM, but it was too big to fit adequately; I may try and fit it to the other currently-abandoned version.

Unfortunately when I painted up the model, I came across some pitting on the face that I hadn't really seen during clean-up; by that point it was too late so a case of having to accept the situation or abandon this one as well - that was not going to happen.

I rate Gentleman very highly as a utility Supreme for pretty much any Team; his combination of Merc and Greed 1 makes him a great option to fill a gap in any selection. Even after the release of over 50 Supremes so far, he still offers promise in numerous circumstances. One consideration I may look at his using him with an atypical Resource - the Silencer gun usually used with Twilight. It would require a mainly coven Team, but would allow Gentleman increased stealth-and-shoot capability.

Tangent

Tangent is a villain with a mysterious motivation. Her mutant special ability is truly unique. Her brain sees the world as an intricate network of tangled lines with glowing red points - the weak spots. After the subconscious analysis is completed, she swings the gun and the bullet hits the bulls eye.

Tangent was surprisingly quick to paint. Although James van Schaik is without doubt among my top 3 favourite sculptors (working for any manufacturer, not just Pulp Monsters), I was not overly enthusiastic about this mini before painting it. Not due to the quality of work, just that out of 40 or more minis in the range it doesn't make the 'top ten' of my favourites, as it were. That lack of enthusiasm changed as I discovered it was nice and straightforwards to paint, and so was able to get it finished fairly quickly, which is always rewarding and heartening. Which of course elevated my opinion of the mini - so apologies to Mr. van Schaik for not seeing the potential of a nicely constructed and crisply executed mini sooner. Looking at it now I need to work on my (human) flesh tones, but that will come, I hope.

In game play Tangent has a unique and fluid in-game resource pool allowing her to enhance her own capabilities, which adds a layer of complexity, which in itself should be interesting when I try her out in games.

Gentleman

If Danny Ortega is to be called ever a victim, he is a victim of fashion and trends.

One of the earliest Pulp City sculpts, the Gentleman is available in two versions: this two-gun version and a sniper re-sculpt.

The Gentleman offers good fire support but cannot stand up to concerted attack. He benefits from two very useful skills - Greed (allowing him to be used by Hero teams; and pretty cheap to do so in my view) and Merc/Mercenary (which means he counts as being of the majority Allegiance represented in the team with all of the attendant bonuses; great for building teams that can exploit Allegiance-related buffs and bonuses).

The inspiration for the colour scheme was the 'Tarantino' gangster look from Resevoir Dogs and Pulp Fiction, using dark greys and GW Badab Black washes. I have started one sniper in a cream suit as contrast and will probbaly do a second sniper to match this first Gentleman. The head beneath his foot I have assumed to be something Ulthar-related.

I plan to use the two-gun version as the basis for a conversion alter this year.
