Another year is over, and my personal painted Pulp City collection has grown! I set myself a target of 12 minis for the year and managed 22, my best output for Pulp City since 2010!
Even then, I had hoped to finish one or two more, so hopefully that will translate into momentum for 2017.
With this year's output I am past 150 painted Pulp City minis in the collection, so I really should make an effort to do a 'whole collection' picture before too long, but I have been saying that for a while as it takes a long time to set up!
In 2017 I hope to finish off the Forgotten and make good headway with both Supreme Alliance and Red Republik, but we shall see where my meandering attention takes me!

Pulp Citizen In 2015
Another year over and a few more minis added to the collection!
I didn't paint as many Pulp City minis in 2015 as I hoped (I aimed for 12 and managed 10), but on the up-side I did add a couple of Leaders, another Powerhouse and a number of Grimm.
In 2016 I am setting the same goal, but I hope it will feel more achievable since in 2015 all of those minis were painted in the second half of the year.
2015 also saw the second Pulp City Kickstarter campaign, which was a very nice success, adding two new whole Factions to the range. If anyone has the belief that running a Kickstarter campaign is easy, I would say it is anything but, and that was with four of us contributing (well done to all of us - Maciej, Devon and Melvin).
So, time to look forward to the year ahead!

Pulp Citizen: 2014 Reflections, And The Year Ahead
First of all, I want to say once more a big thank you to everyone who Follows the Pulp Citizen, everyone who reads the blog, and most of all those who Comment on the blog - any and all feedback is greatly appreciated.
2014 was an interesting year for me. Not as much time for 'hobby stuff' as I would like as I was involved in an academic course, as well as working as part of the team around Kickstarter fulfilment, but I still managed a little painting and some gaming.
In 2014 I painted far fewer minis overall than the year before, which was to be expected but was fewer than I initially hoped for. Pulp City took a real hit in productivity for me: I only painted 4 minis in 2014, against 14 the year before. I hop 2015 is much more productive.
In the year ahead, like the rest of the team I am looking forward to completion of the Kickstarter fulfilment. I am also looking forward to attending Salute with other members of the Pulp Monsters team, as well playing as the annual games I post as battle reports.
For all visitors to the blog, thank you, and here is to seeing what the year ahead brings.

2011 In Review

Click to embiggenerate.
Nowhere near as much painted as I would have liked, but I have had a number of other painting diversions (including more Zombies finished than I would have anticipated at the start of the year). That said, I still have only 5 minis remaining to complete my Pulp City collection so it isn't all bad.
So here is my retrospective collage of minis I completed in 2011. I am already looking forwards to the new releases of 2012!
Happy New Year to everyone reading.

Pulp City Painting Challenge - Update/July Summary
For anyone not following this 'thread' of my posting, I embarked on a quest (my self-imposed Pulp City Painting Challenge) to paint at least one of every (then) available Pulp City miniature before the end of 2010. I didn't succeed, but I gave it a shot. Setting the deadline probably helped me get far more painted than I would have otherwise done - I can be a slow/lazy/easily distracted painter as my main gaming buddy Rob will happily confirm, I am sure!In all I painted 16 Pulp City miniatures before the end of 2009; another 51 minis in 2010; and so far in 2011 I have painted/finished 11 more minis for a grand total of 78.
I had set out with an aim to paint around 55-60 minis in 2010, hoping that would achieve my goal, but I think there were probably slightly more minis released than I accounted for, and a couple of months yielded particularly poor output from me.
So carrying on the Painting Challenge to this year and the first few months were especially unproductive until a better April when things picked up a little. Then the house move loomed and my output dwindled to nothing once more. July has felt rewarding after all this simply as I painted or finally completed 4 minis (although they may get a little touch-up before varnishing - I still consider them 'finished'). Looking back on older posts shows that Guerilla had base colours on at least as far back as December 2010, so at least 7 months from start to finish just for that mini alone, and maybe even longer than that.
With some waves of new releases looming, I hope to kick into gear as I seemed to at the tail end of 2010 (I think I painted 13 minis in November and December), and I have a raft of non-Pulp City minis I want to get painted for a special Pulp City Encounter later in the year to be played with Rob. So onwards with the Challenge; currently 4 minis remaining, but of course there will always be more on the horizon...
July Painting Summary
- Sovereign
- Stinger, Scorpio Fencer
- Guerilla

2011 So Far: Painting Summary
Not a productive 4 months on the Pulp City painting front (or indeed any ranges that I tackle), but hopefully I can get some momentum on the go, finishing 3 Pulp City figures in the past couple of weeks as well as one other (a Hasslefree zombie). I think I may have posted previously that in one of the months I painted nothing, but that doesn't seem to be quite the case in review. Oddly half the Pulp City minis I painted this year were done in a single week!
So far this year:
January
- Lady Cyburn
February
- Xyllian, Master Sagittarius
March
- Dr. Red
April
- Stalker
- Solar/Dark Solar
- Avatar Of The Jaguar
And on the 'painting table':
- Captain Hadron
- Mini Hadron
- Giant Hadron
- Guerilla (still there!)
- Red Baron
- Perun (base colours all blocked out)
- Sovereign (most base colours done, main coat colour shaded and highlighted)

December Painting Summary/Painting Challenge In Review

Okay not a bad month. I didn't achieve my ultimate goal, but in comparison to the rest of the year a good month: I painted as many minis for the Challenge in December as I did in February and April, my joint second-best months until then.
I knew from November that goal was unlikely, but I carried on and this is what I painted or finished in December:
- Skyline
- C.O.R.E. and Access Points
- Le Murtiple (3 minis)
- Virgo
I basically managed half of my target for the month, but the target was roughly 2 months worth of work. In total through the year I painted 51 mostly unique paint-jobs, or just over 4 per month, resulting in 67 unique models painted, and 72 painted Pulp City minis overall.
So where to now with the Challenge? Well I am going to persist. So that is just another month of painting, right? Wrong.
I ordered Giant Hadron a few days ago, at 120 mm tall the biggest Pulp City mini by far. Such a big mini is going to require far more work than a 30-35 mm tall mini of course. So a month to finish that alone maybe. Add in that I hope we see another release of around 5 minis in the first couple of months of the year, then I am going to extend the Challenge to myself to the end of March. Game on.

Mini Update
The Pulp Citizen-cave has been very cold today as my boiler is being replaced (alas not by a butler named Alfred; instead a very helpful plumber), which has meant I have avoided painting minis since with the general chilliness my hands may not be too steady.
Instead I have been re-painting my Ziterdes Victorian Townhouse. If the tiny room heater I am using to replace the boiler does its trick, I may get some painting done today. My goal with my Pulp City Painting Challenge is looking far off at this moment.

November Painting Summary
I gave it my best shot, and it may not be enough, but November was still my best Challenge month bar none. I painted 7 Pulp City minis that I had not painted before, and 3 others that I don't count against the Challenge.I almost finished Skyline yesterday, but time and light got away from me, so hopefully today for him.
For November:- Necro GI's (x2)
- Herald
- Gorgoroth, Taurus Captain
- Iron Train
- Grimm Digger
- Grimm Elder
That leaves 12 minis for December; unlikely, but we shall see how I get on.

Mini Update - Updated!
I said November was shaping up to be my most successful month so far in my Pulp City Painting Challenge, and I was right. Virtually finished today are a Grimm Elder and a Grimm Digger. In Challenge terms that takes me to 7 minis for the month, and 10 Pulp City minis painted as a whole in November.
I'll try and get some pictures tomorrow.

Mini Update
November is shaping up quite well. The target for November-December looked too far out of reach, but I said I'd give my best effort to achieve my Pulp City Painting Challenge, and so far I have been able to paint more than I would normally anticipate.
Finished so far in November:
- Hulking Grimm
- Necro GI's (4 minis; counts as 2 minis in the Challenge)
- Herald
- Iron Train (not yet photographed)
- Gorgoroth, Taurus Captain (not yet photographed)
That totals 8 painted minis for the month (which overshadows the last couple of months quite easily), and 5 discrete minis within context of the Challenge; if I can paint another couple it will by far be my best month of the year.
I'll try and get some more stuff photographed in the next few days.

Mini Update
I finished another 'long-time lingering and unfinished mini' yesterday; this time Iron Train is finally table-ready (well, varnishing aside). I first started painting Iron Train around April/May, so I plead mea culpa to any charge that snails leave me in their painting wake.
I am currently working on Gorgoroth, Taurus Captain (Ulthar); Xyllian, Master Sagitarrius (also Ulthar); and Skyline (Hero). Some other minis have had a little hairy stick tickling: Grimm Elder; Grimm Digger; Lady Cyburn; Guerilla; Dr. Red; C.O.R.E..
I have 15 minis to finish to achieve the goal I set with my Pulp City Painting Challenge; I think it may be unlikely that I will achieve that goal before my self-imposed deadline (the end of the year), but I am still going to give it my best effort.
On another note, I will try and post my impressions on the Pulp City Guide book, possibly later today or tomorrow.

The Next Batch...
Nothing to do with Gremlins, but instead despite the truly cold temperatures today, I managed to undercoat some more minis. I thought I'd chance it since I did not know when the weather would next be right for me to do so, with time available.
The upshot is that I have now got every remaining mini in my Pulp City Painting Challenge undercoated at the very least.
Of the remaining minis they are:
Skyline
Xyllian, Master Saggitarius
Gorgoroth, Taurus Captain
Grimm Elder some base colours applied
Digger Grimm some base colours applied
Lady Cyburn
C.O.R.E. (and Access Points)
Iron Train slapped with the hairy sticks
Captain Hadron
Mini Hadron
Le Murtiple (x3 minis)
Guerilla some base colours applied
Dr. Red a minor tickle with the hairy sticks
Virgo

Better, Better...
I finally have finished those Necro GI's that I have been mentioning for months. They have been a bane, and it took me a while to figure out why. I think the problem was that in trying to paint them in a 'quick and dirty' manner, I didn't like the initial results enough to carry on when I first started with them. A few hours extra work saw them finished. Eventually, and months later...
I also finished a second Hulking Grimm at the beginning of the month. This was simply to 'get something done', and strangely has probably helped me get the motivation to finish off those Necro GI's. I wonder if I will amass a collection of Hulking Grimm in time as painting motivators...
I'll try and get new pictures in the next few days.
Basically I have 56 painted of 73 minis as I am counting them for the Challenge. November will be 'make or break month' I feel.
As I missed the third quarter summary, here is my Pulp City Painting Challenge so far; this is the current list of available Pulp City minis, organised by sub faction; the ones that I have painted already are in italics:

WAMP Painting Contest
One of my increasingly favourite sites - WAMP - is running one its regular painting contests, and this one is Pulp City specific, with a number of prizes available (10 separate prizes I believe).
The link for the contest rules on the forum can be found here:
WAMP Pulp City Painting Contest
The gallery of entries can be found here:
Pulp City Contest Gallery
The deadline for entries is 6pm 28th October 2010 (I guess 6pm UK time), and you can enter as many times as you like.
The WAMP is a nice little place that encourages miniatures painting in all sorts of genres and scales, and I have found it to be nothing but friendly so far. The folks behind the WAMP (led by Brett/Darklord) have also started publishing an e-zine called Portal, and in the second issue you can find the contest entry details.
I am hoping to use the contest both to kick on my personal Pulp City Painting Challenge, but also to finish a project I started ages ago (Sgt. Bale Extreme).
To anyone interested, maybe give it a try.

Mini Update
I managed to get some more Pulp City gaming in on Thursday, and Rob and I took plenty of photographs to hopefully complement an upcoming Battle Report (see the image left for a sneak preview; Howler advances across the battle-wracked streets of Pulp City). On another front I am very excited that the Pulp City Guide (rulebook) is nearing print publication, which will be very cool for avid fans like me.
On the minis front I have tons of stuff in various stages of painting:
- Iron Train (x2!)
- Guerilla
- Necro GI's
- Grimm (Elder & Digger)
- Dr. Tenebrous
- Lady Cyburn
And I'd like to crack on with Dr. Red soon, to complement the ARC forces, which is something Rob and I discussed after the recent game.

July Painting Summary
Not a good month. In fact a month of painting frustration more than anything. I finished Gentleman Sniper and did Twilight pretty quickly (for me - it is all relative!), and did some work on Iron Train, but put him to one side as I am still struggling to get to grips with NMM.
So I started on four Necro GI's (two spare for when they convert hapless Citizens etc.), I thought I'd try and employ the approach that allowed me to finish the Sentry Bots fairly quickly, yet this time things have just not worked well. The Necro GI's have taken me most of the last week or so in terms of any painting time, and a lot of that is covering mistakes, covering stuff I am unhappy with and worst still touching up after dropping them, knocking them over - you name it, if it can be done to chip the paint I have done it with these four. So clumsiness has played a part in limiting my painting progress, but there have been a couple of diversions as well.
On the writing front I have finally finished up an interview I conducted with Maciej (of Pulp Monsters) a few months ago, and so hope that will be available somewhere soon. I have been doing some other writing-related 'work' as well, making a small contribution to something that will be visible sometime around August-September; more on that closer to the time.
Anyway, here is hoping for a better month next month, and finally finishing these Necro GI's...
